Étienne Balibar is professor emeritus of political and moral philosophy at the University Paris Ouest and professor at the University of California, Irvine. He is considered one of the most prestigious contemporary political philosophers. Among his essays include: Marx démocrate: Le manuscrit of 1843 (2001); Europe, constitution, frontière (2005); Violence et civilité. Wellek Library Lectures et autres essais of philosophie politique (2010); The Proposition de l'égaliberté. Essais politiques (2010); Citoyen, sujet et autres essais d'anthropologie philosophique (2011). They have been translated into Castilian, among other works: Reading Capital (1969, coauthored by Louis Althusser); Us, citizens of Europe ?: Borders, the State, the people (2003); Derecho de Ciudad (2004); Spinoza and politics (2011).
