Georges Simenon (Liege, Belgium, 1903 - Lausanne, Switzerland, 1989) wrote one hundred ninety-one novels to his name, and an unknown number of novels and stories published under pseudonyms, plus memoirs and dictated texts. The commissioner Maigret is the protagonist of seventy-two of these novels and thirty-one stories, all published between 1931 and 1972. Celebrated throughout the world, and recognized as a teacher, no one doubts that today is one of the greatest writers the twentieth century.
