Guido Tonelli

He graduated in physics in 1975 from the University of Pisa, where he has been a professor since 1992. Since 1976 he has participated in various experiments at CERN and since the 1990s in projects related to the LHC (Large Hadron Collider). In December 2011 he presented, together with Fabiola Gianotti, the first proof of the existence of the Higgs boson, a discovery that led François Englert and Peter Higgs to obtain the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2013. Tonelli has received awards such as the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the special award of the Fundamental Physics Prize, the Enrico Fermi Prize and the Medal of Honor of the President of the Italian Republic.
