Jessica Bruder

American journalist who writes about subcultures and teaches narrative writing at Columbia Journalism School. To write Nomadic Country, he spent months living in a motorhome, documenting itinerant Americans who left their traditional homes and hit the road, traveling from job to job to make a place for themselves in a precarious economy. The project spanned three years and more than 15,000 miles of travel, from coast to coast and from Mexico to Canada. She is also the author of Burning Book and currently writes about trust in the age of surveillance. He has contributed to prominent media outlets such as The New York Times, WIRED, Harper's Magazine, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, The International Herald Tribune, The New York Times Magazine and The Guardian. His photographic work has been published by The New York Times, The New York Observer and Blender magazine. Bruder holds a bachelor's degree in English and French from Amherst College and a master's degree in journal writing from Columbia Journalism School. He has received scholarships from the Bellagio Center and Yaddo in support of his work. But before all this, she was a waitress at Starbucks, snowboarder, electric guitar nerd, music store clerk and junior camp counselor. She is a proud member of the Madagascar Institute and the Flaming Lotus Girls.
