Joaquín Estefanía

Joaquín Estefanía Moreira (Madrid, March 12, 1951) is a Spanish journalist.

Graduated in Economic Sciences and Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid, he began his professional activity in 1974 as editor in the Informaciones newspaper; Shortly after, he became head of the economics section of the Cuadernos para la dialogue magazine and editor-in-chief of the economic newspaper Cinco Días.

Later he joined the newspaper El País, of which he became director between 1988 and 1993; from 1993 to 1996 he is director of publications for Grupo PRISA. He continues writing columns on economy in El País. He has also written several books with economic content.

Between 2007 and 2012 he directs the annual publication of the Report on Democracy in Spain of the Fundación Alternativas, of which he is a member of the board of trustees.

Joaquín Estefanía is especially linked to Cantabria.
