Jorge Esquinca

Orge Esquinca (Mexico City, 1957) Poet, translator, essayist, editor. He was born in Mexico City on April 5, 1957. He lived as a child in the Mexican province (Irapuato, León) and since 1968 in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

He studied Communication Sciences at the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Studies (ITESO).

In 1979 he entered the Jalisco Department of Fine Arts Literature Workshop, coordinated by Elías Nandino.

In 1982 he founded the independent publishing house Cuarto Menguante.

Between 1992 and 1995 he was director of the Department of Literature of the Jalisco Ministry of Culture and directed the collection of poetry books "Origenes"; he edited Nostromo, the cultural supplement of the newspaper Siglo 21; he was a columnist for the magazine Vuelta, in which he collaborated also with poems, articles and translations.

From 2000 to 2010 he coordinated the cultural activities of the José Luis Martínez Bookstore of the Fondo de Cultura Económica in Guadalajara.

In 2012, the choreographic production Anímula, created from his poems, premiered under the direction of the dancer Gabriela Cuevas.

He has received scholarships from the French Ministry of Culture and the Italian Civitella Ranieri Foundation.

Since 1993 he is a Member of the National System of Art Creators.

During the last thirty years, in addition to carrying out multiple teaching activities in his country, he has given readings, conferences, courses, and literary workshops in Argentina, Ecuador, the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.

He is the director of the Mano Santa Editores label, specializing in poetry books.

He currently lives in San Antonio Tlayacapan, on the shores of Lake Chapala, Jalisco.
