Born in Orense (1929) is considered today one of the most important poets of Spanish lyric of the second half of the twentieth century. His work began in 1955 with A Way of Hope, and includes such significant titles as The Memory and the Signs (1966), The Innocent (1970), Material memoria (1979), The Dawn Is Not the Singer (1992) or The Posthumous Fragments of a future book. An extensive selection of his lyric work - The Glow. Anthology poetic (1953-1996) - was published by this same publisher. As a critic and essayist, Valente is the author of books such as The Words of the Tribe (1971), The Stone and the Center (1983) or Variations on the Bird and the Net (1991), as well as -published equally by this publisher- Praise Of the calligrapher (2002) and Abyssal experience (2004), followed in 2006 and 2008 by the two volumes of his Complete Works, edited by Andrés Sánchez Robayna. He died in Geneva in 2000.
