Graduate in Political Science and Sociology (Complutense University of Madrid, UCM), Master in Economics of Education and Labor (Carlos III University) and PhD in Sociology (Autonomous University of Madrid). He has been a fellow at the Center for Sociological Research (CIS), at the UCM and at the University of Salamanca and has done research stays at the universities of Wisconsin, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and several Spanish universities. He has been a professor at the University of Salamanca and at the CIS, and is currently a professor of Sociology at the University of La Laguna. Between 2007 and 2011 he was an advisory member in the cabinet of President Rodríguez Zapatero. His research has been published in various prestigious academic journals; He is the author of Social Structure and Inequality in Spain; He collaborates regularly with the newspapers Eldiario.es and Escuela and sporadically with different media such as El País, Le Monde Diplomatique or El Viejo Topo.
