Joseph Goldstein is one of the first American teachers of Vipassana.

He is also a co-founder, along with Jack Kornfield and Sharon Salzberg, of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, where he is one of the resident teachers.

He is the author of The Experience of Insight and Insight Meditation and has written other books in collaboration with Sharon Salzberg and Jack Kornfield. he has been studying and practicing meditation since 1976 under the guidance of eminent teachers from India, Burma and Tibet.

He leads retreats and teaches throughout the world.
