
Juan García Ponce (Merida, Yucatán, September 22, 1932 - Mexico City, December 27, 2003). He was a writer, essayist and literary critic and of Mexican art. Brother of the painter Fernando García Ponce. Son of a Spanish immigrant, he graduated as Professor of German Letters at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He was a prominent member of the so-called "Generación de Medio Siglo", also known as "Generación de la Ruptura" or "de la Casa del Lago", to which José de la Colina, Salvador Elizondo, Inés Arredondo and Sergio Pitol , As well as his brother Fernando García Ponce. For ten years (1957-1967) he was the editorial secretary in the Revista de la Universidad de México.
