Juan José Fernández Teijeiro

Juan José Fernández Teijeiro was born in La Coruña in 1936. He holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santiago de Compostela, a specialist in Pediatrics and Family Medicine and a PhD in Psychology with a Master's Degree in Human Sexuality. Internal student of the Hospital Clínico de Santiago, he has practiced his specialty in Torrelavega, being a doctor of National Health, puericultor of the State, titular doctor and head of Health of the Municipality of Torrelavega since 1966. He has also been a professor at the Departmental School of Childcare and the School of Health of Santander (1974-1984). Author of numerous journalistic articles of his specialty, he has also published different works in the "Journal of the History of Psychology" and in the "Magazine of the Cornide Institute of Coruña Studies". His collaborations have also been published in "ABC", "El Correo Gallego", "Alerta" and "El Diario Montañés". Between his prizes and distinctions emphasizes the qualification of "Cum laude" of his doctoral thesis: "The psychological work of Nóvoa Saints" (1998), the prize of the Foundation Barrié de la Maza of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Galicia (1997) , the National Literary Prize of the Association of Medical Writers (1994), the Dr. Zúmel Prize for Essay (1996) and the Fernando Monasterio de Asemeya Prize (1996). He is Academic of number of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Cantabria, of which he is founder, and corresponding Academician of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Galicia. He has also been vice-dean of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Cantabria. Member of the number of the Association of Writers of Spain, the Spanish Society of Pediatrics and the Association of Medical Writers, was a founder and member of the Spanish Society of Childcare. He is also a member of the Society of History of Medicine and of the Spanish Society of the History of Psychology. Among other distinctions and titles is Knight of the Royal Monastery of Yuste, member of the Order of Scallop and president of the Galician Center of Santander.
