Judith Butler (1956, Cleveland, USA) is a post-structuralist philosopher and one of the most influential in the field of gender studies philosophers. She holds a PhD in philosophy from Yale University (1984) and currently holds the chair Maxine Elliot Rhetoric, Comparative Literature and Women's Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, having taught at Wesleyan University in Ohio and Johns Hopkins. He has made important contributions in the fields of feminism, human rights, political philosophy, ethics and moral philosophy. He has written more than 20 books, translated into several languages, and has received numerous awards and honors international prestige.
