Julio Ortega (Casma, Peru, 1942) Peruvian critic, essayist, teacher, poet, and narrator whose work of thought is one of the most important in Latin America, for his lucid reflections on literature and its relations with history and society .
Professor at Brown University, and at various American and European universities, he has lived in the United States for thirty years, although he has also resided for periods in Barcelona, London, Lima, Mexico and Caracas. Among his multiple critical publications stand out The Discourse on Abundance (1992), A Poetics of Change (1992), Art of Innovating (1994), Portrait of Carlos Fuentes (1995), The Radical Principle of the New (1997) and Caja de tools. Cultural practices for the new Chilean century (2000).
