
Kate Lister, England. Historian, author and lecturer, Lister is a lecturer in the School of Arts and Communication at Leeds Trinity University. She has spent years researching and campaigning against the stigmatisation of sex workers. She primarily researches the literary history of sex work and is the curator of the online research project Whores of Yore, an interdisciplinary digital archive for the study of sexuality throughout history. This project presents Lister’s research as well as articles by academics, sex workers, activists, artists, therapists and historians, in order to break down hierarchies and unite conversations around sexuality. Lister has also published essays on medical humanities, material culture, Victorian studies and neo-medievalism. She writes regularly on the history of sexuality for iNews, Vice and the Wellcome Trust. She was voted Publicist of the Year at the Sexual Freedom Awards 2017 and nominated for the Most Innovative Teacher of the Year Award at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards 2020.
