Llorenç Villalonga i Pons was born in Palma de Mallorca on March 1, 1897. He was the son of a military father, but he did not want to follow in his father's footsteps and studied medicine at the faculties of Murcia, Barcelona, Madrid and Zaragoza, where he finished his degree. , specializing in Psychiatry, in 1926. He practiced as a doctor in Palma, first in a private practice, and later at the city's Psychiatric Hospital.

He wrote in both Majorcan and Spanish. He is considered one of the most important figures in 20th century Catalan language literature.
