Lourdes Vázquez is a writer born in Puerto Rico and residing for many years in the United States. He won the Juan Rulfo short story award in 2002 in France and in 2004 his Bestiary: Selected Poems 1986-1997, received an Honorable Mention at the annual ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Awards; in addition to being one of the books selected in ‘May-June 2004 Picks' of the Small Press Review. In 2001 she was awarded the 50 Most Distinguished Latinas in the Tri-State Area Award "El Diario-La Prensa Newspaper (NY). Her book Las hembras (1987) was selected by Puerto Rican critics as one of the ten best books in the year and Terrified of horns and crows, biography of the poet Marina Arzola received the same distinction in 1990.
