Luis Pazos

Luis Alberto Pazos de la Torre (Veracruz, Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave, August 25, 1947) is a Mexican economist and politician, graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho and member of the National Action Party. He has served as Director of the National Bank of Public Works and Services (BANOBRAS).

Luis Pazos has studies in economics at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, is a lawyer who graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho and a Masters and a PhD at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

He has written books on economic issues and has been critical of the economic policies of the Mexican PRI presidents emanating mainly on issues of oil and inflation policy.

In 1998, he was nominated PAN candidate for governor of Veracruz where he won the PRI candidate Miguel Aleman Velasco, however, achieved the highest number of votes for an opposition candidate in that state. In 2000, he was elected Federal Deputy in the LVIII Legislature where he served as Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Public Accounts.

In 2003, President Vicente Fox appointed General Manager BANOBRAS. He is currently Chairman of the CONDUSEF where he has been questioned by some industry because of their opposition to the drop in fees for financial services and high interest rates. Luis Pazos from their first books published in the early 70's, has severely criticized all price controls by the government.

Luis Pazos in 1990 received an Honorary Doctorate by the University Marroquín1 Francisco because of its commitment to the cause of liberty philosophy.
