Manuel Alvar

Manuel Alvar López (Benicarlo, Castellon, July 8, 1923 - Madrid, 13 August 2001) was a philologist, professor dialectólogo and Spanish.

His Manual of Spanish dialectology and field studies, reflected in their linguistic and ethnographic atlas, inevitable references of Hispanic Philology, in which Alvar area is considered an institution. Member of the Royal Spanish Academy since 1974 (T occupied the chair and headed between 1988 and 1991), and the Royal Academy of History since 1999.

He was also professor and father of Manuel Alvar Ezquerra lexicographer (b. 1950), the professor of Romance philology Carlos Alvar (b. 1951), researcher in tropical medicine and doctor Jorge Alvar Ezquerra (b. 1952), the professor of Latin philology Antonio Alvar Ezquerra (b. 1954), the professor and expert historian Jaime Alvar Ezquerra Ancient History (b. 1955) and the university professor and specialist in Golden Age Spain Alfredo Alvar Ezquerra (n. 1960).
