Manuel Vázquez Montalbán (1939-2003), poet, essayist, novelist, and journalist. From a very young age, he contributed to countless publications under numerous pseudonyms (such as Manolo V el Empecinado) and became an indispensable critical voice of the left in the second half of the 20th century. As a poet, he was included in J. M. Castellet's famous anthology, *Nueve novísimos poetas españoles* (Nine Very New Spanish Poets); his work was collected in the volume *Poesía completa* (Complete Poetry) (1963-2003). He became very popular for his series of detective novels featuring Pepe Carvalho, including *La soledad del mánager* (The Manager's Loneliness), *Los mares del Sur* (The Seas of the South), *Asesinato en el Comité Central* (Murder in the Central Committee), and many others. Among his non-fiction works are *Informe sobre la información* (Report on Information), *Crónica sentimental de España* (Sentimental Chronicle of Spain), *Panfleto desde el planeta de los simios* (Pamphlet from the Planet of the Apes), and those dedicated to two great passions, football, and gastronomy, such as *Contra los gourmets* (Against the Gourmets). He also published excellent novels, including Autobiography of General Franco (Ennio Flaiano International Literature Prize) and his two most acclaimed works, Galíndez (National Narrative Prize, European Literature Prize, and Euskadi Silver Prize) and The Pianist, which we will also be reissuing at Anagrama, as well as the Dictionary of Francoism. In the 1970s, our publishing house released two very unique works: Guillermotta in the Land of the Guillerminas and Marxist Questions.
