Marcus Banks is a professor at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Oxford.
His main areas of interest are: visual anthropology, ethnic films, urban society in India and Jainism, ethnicity, computer and research methods.
Marcus Banks in recent years has been mainly dedicated area of visual anthropology. He has participated in research in India and the UK on the organization of the Jain community and the latest anthropological theories of ethnicity.
Recent topics of study that has addressed were: the story of a small town west of India, the practice of film in Colonial India, the history of ethnographic films and the development of reliable theories about research methods.
His latest research topic was the area of forensic images. Just co-publish with Andre Gingrich (Vienna) a book on the new nationalism in Europe. He is also co-editing a book on visual anthropology with Jay Ruby (Temple).
