He was born in 1832, in Vienna. Although he was more inclined towards a life of poet and sailor, naturalist and traveler, the imperialist ambitions of Napoleon III took him to accept the throne of Mexico that offered the conservatives to him. Believing that he had the support of the people, Maximiliano disembarked in the port of Veracruz on May 28, 1864, and a few days later settled with his lavish entourage in the castle of Chapultepec. His government was tense, artificial, pressed by French interests and the animosity of Mexican liberals. After Empress Carlota failed to seek help from the European monarchies, the liberals rose up in arms. The 15 of May of 1867 the consummation of the city of Mexico was consummated. Maximiliano was shot in Cerro de las Campanas on June 14, 1867 along with generals Miramon and Mejia.
