Omar Millán has a degree in Spanish-American Language and Literature from the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC); he has a diploma in Higher Secondary Education and a postgraduate degree in Journalism. He currently works as a teacher and freelance journalist.
He has published the narrative journalism books The boxer factory in Tijuana (2012), Trips to the east of the city. A Chronicle of the War on Drugs (2014) and The Martian and the Lobster (2017). He is also a screenwriter, co-director and co-producer of the documentary Desde la esquina (Mexico, 2021).
In 2005 he obtained an honorable mention of the Latin American Award for the Best Journalistic Investigation of a Corruption Case, from the Press and Society Institute (IPYS) and Transparency International for Latin America and the Caribbean (Tilac), with the report Caso Sasayama. In 2012, his work was awarded the bronze medal of the José Martí Journalism Award from the National Association of Hispanic Publications, for the report Doble desafío.
