Rius

 Rius

Eduardo Humberto del Río García (Zamora, Michoacán, June 20, 1934-Tepoztlán, Morelos, August 8, 2017) was a popular cartoonist, comic strip artist and Mexican writer who published with the pseudonym of Rius, hundreds of books that remain very popular, especially among Mexican readers. Rius was a political activist with a tendency toward the progressive left, a point of view that he frequently presented in his writings, accompanied by a strong criticism of Mexican neoliberal doctrines, American politics and the Catholic Church. He used this as the opening of the Cuban Revolution in his book "Cuba for Beginners" and a strong supporter of the Soviet bloc until the end of the Cold War. With the publication of "It's a pity, Cuba in 1994", he modified his ideological concept by initiating a strong criticism against corruption, bureaucratization and the repression of Fidel Castro's government.
