Rutu Modan

Rutu Modan (Tel Aviv, 1966). He graduated from the Jerusalem Academy of Arts and Design and began to publish cartoons and illustrations in the main newspapers of his country, as well as to co-publish the Israeli edition of MAD Magazine. Modan is co-founder of Actus Tragicus, an alternative collective of comic book authors, also an independent publisher. In 1996 he collaborated with author Etgar Keret to make his first graphic novel, Nobody Said it Was Going to Be Fun, a bestseller in Israel. Currently, Rutu Modan collaborates with several international newspapers, among them The New York Times, The New Yorker or Le Monde. He had two series in The New York Times: Mixed Emotions and The Murder of the Terminal Patient. Metralla (Astiberri, 2015) won the Eisner Award for Best Album and was nominated for the Ignatz Awards. Rutu Modan is also the author of Jamilti and other stories (Astiberri, 2016) and The property (coming soon in Astiberri). She currently resides in Jerusalem with her family, where she teaches at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
