Tomas Gil is a professor of practical philosophy at the Technische Universität Berlin. He was professor of philosophy at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and the Free University of Brussels. Ph.D. in Münster in 1981 and won a university chair in Stuttgart in 1992. He also taught at the universities of Cologne, Hamburg, London and Albany. He is currently dean of the Graduate School of the Franco-German University empiricism and rationalism, and a member of Technikphilosophie Kolleg of the Association of German Engineers.

His publications include Ethik (1993), Kritik der klassische Geschichtsphilosophie (1999), Demokratische Technikbewertung (1999), Practical Reasoning (2002), Die des Rationalität Handelns (2003), Der Begriff des Wissens (2006) and Die Erklärung des menschlichen Verhaltens (2009).
