Víctor Gómez Pin

Victor Gómez Pin studied Philosophy at the Sorbonne where he obtained the degree of Docteur d'Etat with a thesis on the Aristotelian order. He is currently Professor Emeritus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​after having taught for years the subjects Philosophy and Mathematics Epistemology and Fundamental Philosophy.

In the eighties, Víctor Gómez Pin was linked to the project to create an interdisciplinary faculty at the University of the Basque Country, being the first director of the Department of Philosophy. Within the framework of this institution it moved to the incorporation of professors and researchers from diverse backgrounds and from very different theoretical interests, such as the eminent historian of Aristotle Pierre Aubenque, the philosopher and Fields Mathematics Medal René Thom or Jacques Derrida who made during a whole He took his first seminar on "Philosophy as an institution" (motivated by the fact that the creation of a philosophy department was projected in a difficult social and political context). In fidelity to what this theoretical project was, Victor Gómez Pin later founded the International Ontology Congress / International Ontology Congress, of which he is coordinator and whose editions, with biennial periodicity for a quarter of a century, have been carried out in San Sebastián and Barcelona under the UNESCO Sponsorship.

He has been Visiting Professor and lecturer at different foreign and Spanish universities, including Venice International University, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the ENS of Paris, the Queen’s College of the CUNY or the University of Santiago. He has also been a member of international committees for the programming of doctoral and third cycle studies and international scholarships, so in 2012 and 2013 he was a member of the Selection Committee of Ferdinand Braudel -IFER Fellowships (dependent among other institutions of The European Marie Curie Actions and the Minister of the French Recherche). Between 2012 and 2014 he was a resident researcher at the Maison Suger-Fondation des Sciences de l 'Homme, subsidized by different institutions to investigate in different Parisian centers (ENS, Université Paris-Diderot) on the subject: “Ontologie et science naturelle dès la pensée grecque à la science contemporaine ”

He received in 2009 the Prize dell’Istituto Veneto per Venezia. He has also won the Anagrama and Espasa Essay awards. In April 2013 he was appointed member of Jakiunde (Basque Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts) and in June 2015 he was appointed Honorary Doctorate by the University of the Basque Country.
