
Vincent Bevins, Santa Monica (USA), 1984. American journalist and writer. From 2011 to 2016 he worked in Brazil as a foreign correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, after having worked in London for the Financial Times and in Venezuela for The Daily Journal. In 2017 he moved to Jakarta and began covering Southeast Asia for the Washington Post, and in 2018 he began writing a book on violence in Indonesia and Latin America during the Cold War. His work has focused primarily on international politics, the world economy and global culture. Bevins was born and raised in California and attended the University of California, Berkeley. He also competed in the final of the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship in 2002 with the California Golden Bears. In 2012, thanks to his research on modern slavery in the Amazon rainforest, pig iron companies in the state of Maranhão agreed not to use charcoal produced with slave labor, forest destruction or invasions of indigenous lands. Bevins occasionally writes and appears in Brazilian media, speaks fluent Portuguese and has also worked in Spanish and German. During his career he has received numerous awards for his journalistic work, such as the Los Angeles Press Club, the Lorenzo Natali Media Award of the European Union and the Overseas Press Club.
