Vittorio Gassman

Vittorio Gassman

Vittorio Gassman (Genoa, 1922-Rome, 2000) has become, after more than one hundred films as an actor, a key reference for understanding the world of acting and its evolution throughout the second half of the 20th century. He began his film career in 1946. He worked with directors of the stature of Luchino Visconti, Vittorio de Sica and King Vidor. In 1960 he founded the Italian Popular Theater and in 1980, in Florence, the "Bottega del Teatro", a theater school that he directed. Acantilado has already published About the Theater (2003), an in-depth interview by Luciano Lucignani to Il Matattore about his experiences in the performing world, and A Great Future Behind My Back (2004), his memoirs.
