William Morris

William Morris

William Morris (1834-1896). He was a Renaissance individual in the heyday of industrial capitalism, a refined esthete to the vulgarity of mass production, a poet attracted by dreams and ancient medieval Norse sagas, a textile designer and inexhaustible enrgía a fervent and committed socialist agitator. Although the source of its originality, this plurality of facets in the work of Morris has also given rise to distortion of his legacy and oblivion of political power behind this plurality of interests: the same aspiration to enjoy the beauty and the fullness of life, work and scope for conducting and human happiness and social justice as a condition for its consummation.
