N. in 1941, doctor in theology and philosophy, Xabier Pikaza Ibarrondo is one of the most renowned Spanish theologians of the moment. He studied at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, the University of Santo Tomás (Rome) and the Biblical Institute (Rome). He expanded his studies at the universities of Bonn and Hamburg, in Germany. He obtained a Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca (1965) and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Santo Tomás in Rome (1972). He has performed teaching duties in different European and American universities. Since 1972 he was a professor at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical University of Salamanca, and Professor 1975-1984. Between 1985 and 1989 he conducted an investigation at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and at other universities preparing some publications. From 1989 to 2003 he was a professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, and was in charge of teaching the Phenomenology of Religion. In 2003 he left this position due to doctrinal differences and retired to private life with his wife, continuing with research and writing books and lecturing in Spain and America. He also renounced religious life as a religious of the Order of Mercy and presbyter of the Catholic Church because of tensions with the hierarchy of the Catholic Church and because of the persecution carried out by the hierarchy against his work and teaching. He contracted marriage with María Isabel Pérez Chaves. From here he continues his work as a researcher and writer, and has published more than thirty works in the fields of Theology, Ethics and History of Religion. The main religious publishers have him on their list of authors. He has given numerous seminars and given lectures on religious topics in Spain and America.
