
Xinran Xue is a British-Chinese writer, journalist, and activist. She was a presenter on a popular state radio program in China between 1989 and 1997, and moved to London in 1997. Her first book, Silenced Voices, was published in 2002 and became an international bestseller, and her work The Promise was shortlisted for the Society of Authors' Translation Prize.
In 2004, she founded The Mothers' Bridge of Love (MBL), an organization that aims to improve access to education for disadvantaged children in China, share traditional Chinese culture with children around the world, and help Chinese children adopted by Western families understand their cultural heritage.
