Yanis Varoufakis

Athens, 1961 , Yanis is a renowned Greek- Australian economist of international scientific reputation. He is professor of economic policy at the University of Athens and director of the economic program of the Greek party left SYRIZA . He currently teaches in the U.S., at the University of Texas, and is an active participant in discussions on global, European and Greek crisis and co -founder of Vital Space ( www.vitalspace.org ) .

From January 2004 to December 2006 Varoufakis served as economic advisor to George Papandreou, whose government became a fervent critic few years later. Author of several books on game theory, Varoufakis is also a recognized speaker and often appears as a guest to the news media as the BBC Today , CNN, Sky News, Bloomberg TV among other analyst. In November 2010 he and Stuart Holland , a former Labour deputy and professor of economics at the University of Coimbra (Portugal ) Party, published A Modest Proposal , a set of economic policies aimed at overcoming the euro crisis .

His latest book, The Global Minotaur, is for many critics the best theoretical economic explanation of the evolution of capitalism in the past six decades.
