Despite its diverse origin, the four essays that make up this volume constitute a unit of content. In the first Habermas elaborates the thesis for a division of labor between empirical and philosophical research, encouraged by the example of the genetic epistemology of Jean Piaget. In the second essay Lawrence Kohlberg's theory of morality serves as a model for Habermas to clarify the interpretation of causal explanations and reconstructions based on hypotheses. The third work, written on the occasion of a tribute to Karl-Otto Apel, aims to help clarify the proposal of discursive ethics. The last, in short, is a contribution to the division of labor raised from the assumption that the development of a discursive ethic is not a self-sufficient task.
