This book resists the summary or description because it exceeds the limits of the subjects it deals with (literature, of course, but also the plastic arts, forgetfulness, uncertainty, insomnia or the passage of time), because the whole is greater, much greater, than the sum of its parts. Aira gives the reader a radical bet: to return language to the center of writing and lead the writer to a territory often abandoned, that of curious and hesitant consciousness, that of a subjectivity that explores the world and proclaims its astonishments. Aira claims the fragment, the shining piece, as the only verbal device that manages to reflect the chaotic flow of thoughts and, along that way, manages to establish a literary order in apparent chaos. Thus the heterogeneous continuity that is the voice of the writer (of any writer) is edified. For him, literature is a world or, better, it's the world.
