Shortly before her death in January 2018, Ursula K. Le Guin had a series of conversations with her friend David Naimon about the most profound and intimate act a creative mind can perform: writing. It is through the act of writing, fueled by the power of imagination, that we transmit the best stories. Naimon and Le Guin planned to compile their conversations into a book that would serve as a friendly dialogue about the joy of imagining and the vocation of writing, aimed at anyone who wanted to delve into the mystery of creation. For Ursula, it was her last work—although she couldn't revise it completely, she did oversee a good portion of the text—and for David Naimon, the fulfillment of a dream: he had accessed the wisdom of the greatest American science fiction and fantasy writer of the 20th century, and with this book, he could share it with the rest of the world.
