At the age of twenty Tsai Ming-liang moved from her native Malaysia to Taipei where she studied film, worked as a theatre producer, screenwriter and television director. With his second feature film, Rebels of the Neon God (1992) he won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, with eleven feature films, shorts, documentaries, segments and programs, which have led him to be considered one of the most important active filmmakers in the world.
