Between 1907 and 1911, Ferdinand de Saussurre gave three courses in General Linguistics at the University of Geneva. These would suppose, in general lines, the birth of contemporary linguistics. Upon his death, Ch. Bally and A. Sechehaye published, from the notes and notes of their students, the General Linguistics Course (1916), the basis of modern linguistic studies. In it, Saussurre defines, for the first time, key concepts, assigning them a specific meaning, later endorsed by linguistics. Terms such as synchrony, diachrony, language, language, speech, sign signified, signifier, linguistic unit, etc .; They were born in the General Linguistics Course, and then passed on to different hands that redefined them from their particular approaches: Bally's Geneva stylistics, the phonologists and structuralists of the Prague school, psycholinguistics, the glycemic school and Chomsky, among others. But, despite the difference that all schools maintain, the basis of their work starts from the General Linguistics Course, which affected all branches of the human sciences. Saussurre's thought represents, together with Freud's, one of the starting points of the current development of the sciences. This edition incorporates in Mauro Armiño's notes the fruits of the most recent Saussurean works, which provide criticism and rectifications, endorsed by Saussurre's handwritten notes or by the confrontation of the students' notebooks, to the text prepared by Ch. Bally and A. Sechehaye.
