I want to imagine Of Bodies and Journeys in this way: as a book-experience, which reveals something of my ongoing research, not only underlining my inquiries and movements, but also recording the transformations I went through; in a way, drawing a cartography of affections and affections.

Written in the last decade, the chapters that make up this book are reflections originating from research experiences: an ethnography in an institution for people living with AIDS in Brasilia, an investigation on "AIDS dissidents" in Spain, and the most recent research on technology and health that I have been developing in São Paulo.

Over the course of the following pages, the reader will encounter various topics: inmates of a shelter for HIV carriers in Brasilia; AIDS dissidents creating new forms of biosociality in Spain and sharing conventions even in dissidence; shared conventions about the great nature-culture divide and the search for a syntax that can account for the body; gender technologies in police pages; transvestites (queer bodies) incorporating the pomba-tour in the houses of saints; health professionals and their processes of affections and affections in actions oriented to the indigenous context. Underlying this variety of themes is an attempt to understand the intricate relationships between bodies and affects.
