He argues that, contrary to individual freedom posited by Western philosophy inherited from Descartes, the subject is experienced as an object of forces which have their self, and which is exposed. According to him, family constellations show that we are encompassed in contexts and higher orders, taking us to their service regardless of our desires or fears, and only from the knowledge and respect of such orders may be obtained positive therapeutic results.
