Flaiano, plus an extraordinary writer and novelist (in 1947 he won the Strega Prize for his novel Tempo di uccidere) was a very sharp journalist and theater and film critic. He worked in media such as Il Corriere della Sera, Film Illustrato, Oggi, Risorgimento Liberale and Il Mondo, in whose pages appeared the first fragments of notturno Journal, a set of impressions, stories and fables about postwar Italy that realizes one of the most lucid and visionary of his time thoughts. In 1956, at the request of Valentino Bompiani, much of the Journal is published together in one volume that includes notebooks from 1946 to 1956, setting a critical work of a polished and authentic, critical prose to enter not only in the cultural climate and in new obsessions of a country then reinventing the deep identity crisis triggered by the war defeat, but in the minds of the most significant Italian culture of the twentieth century.
Published in Spanish by Seix Barral in 1958, the Journal of Ennio Flaiano night never again it is republished in our language. In this new translation from the Italian by Martin Schifino, and with an original foreword by Eduardo Berti, Fjord put back into circulation notebooks of this chronicler of genius, villages of real and imaginary portraits, notes that could be believed taken from our reality present, analytical and extemporaneous remarks, and travel hallucinated as those that characterize his films with Fellini or Antonioni.
