If there is an area in need of a work such as the present, it is undoubtedly geography, for it draws its vocabulary from numerous neighbouring disciplines, between the natural sciences and the human sciences, and sometimes takes in its particular sense the original meaning of words. The use of foreign terms, generally adopted from the international vocabulary, and the application of proper names to the designation of universally generalizable data and facts also imply a lexicology. In this sense, this work constitutes a solid instrument of references, as well as a broad epistemological and methodological introduction to the study and understanding of geography.
