The Road to Wigan Pier reflects one of the most revealing life experiences for George Orwell, as an individual and as a writer. This autobiographical story was born as a result of the trip that the British author made to the north of England in 1936 – mainly to the regions of Lancashire and Yorkshire –, entering this mining region, and writing down in a scientific and exhaustive way, the terrible consequences of the Great Depression. of the thirties of the 20th century.
The impressions of this trip made a deep impression on Orwell, and shaped a political and social consciousness, in which he concluded that the only solution to misery and inequality was socialism.
