Carlos Monsiváis, one of the most important and recognized Mexican authors of the 20th century, published the column Por mi madre, bohemios, one of the most famous in the Mexican press, for more than four decades. During the seventies of the last century, Monsivais accompanied this column with a section that was just as hilarious as, or more hilarious, Doctor Illustration's office, where hypothetical readers belonging to the Mexican cultural sphere wrote letters under pseudonyms such as "Genuinely Dismayed," "Free and Grateful” or “The scientific palpitation of the blood”. Almost all the letters raised issues and delusional questions such as: «Does Gertrude Stein's phrase “a rose is a rose is a rose”, derive from the popular Mexican saying “one thing is one thing and another thing is another thing”? What can be done to save one's artistic consciousness while writing radio soap operas for money? How to bear the misfortune of the weight of fame?”, to which the “doctor” always responded in a comical, brief and forceful way.

This book rescues the best texts of that section, selected, annotated and prologued by Rafael Barajas "El Fisgón", a caricaturist with an enormous career and projection in Mexico and, at the same time, one of Monsivais' close friends.
