Stoicism, which emerged in Hellenistic Greece, developed widely in Imperial Rome until it became one of the most influential cultural, philosophical and social movements of late antiquity. Its approach proposed a practical way to achieve happiness, through the exercise of virtue and knowledge of reason, which allowed these teachings to spread throughout Roman society. Since then, Roman Stoicism has continued to be a philosophical point of reference until today, when it has been claimed as a fundamental thought to face adversity in a time of profound transformations.
