
Tokyo, 1980s.
Hideo is a middle-aged television screenwriter who was orphaned at twelve. Recently divorced, he throws himself into his work and lives a mundane, predictable, and solitary life.
One day he meets a man who resembles his father and whose wife resembles his mother. But they are just over thirty, the age his parents were when they died. It can't be real, can it?
He begins to spend more and more time with them, rediscovering the everyday life and affection he never experienced with his parents. There is something strangely sinister about this disconcerting mix of reality and illusion, and he questions which of the two worlds to embrace.
