Soft coverPhilipp Mainländer (1841-1876), a self-taught man and admirer of Schopenhauer, was a German thinker and writer who ended his life early hours after receiving the recently published copy of his main work, The Philosophy of Redemption. In this treatise he sets forth the central theses of his philosophical pessimism, where he conceives the origin of the universe as the decomposition of a God who destroyed himself, making his tendency not to exist prevail. From this loss, he stages the picture of a universe in maximum tension and tense, where individual wills to live fight for existence and to achieve, in the case of human beings, supreme happiness.
