The words that build this book are insurrectionary, not resurrected. In ancestral languages, the poetry gathered here is new, a significant part written already in the 21st century, another at the end of the 20th, and only in a few cases before 1980. Something as exciting as the emergence of a new literature in Mexico—of In fact, a bundle of new literatures with their own corpus—continues to go unnoticed by the dominant culture, and at most, as a curiosity worthy of an “ethnic” quota. The current protean moment begins after 1980, and gains momentum in the following decade. Today literature is written, in a sustained manner and with frequent poetic and expressive achievements, in different Mexican languages, some older than Spanish, and quite alive in the 21st century.
