At every moment, Villalba is as interested in visceral forces (violence, desire, love, mourning, loneliness, transformation) as in using a language that dissects them. His approach is both relentless and serene, and he uses experimental tools applied to timeless questions. When I let myself be guided by the brief and agile verses that make up his long and patient poems, the relationship between the two, the vehemence of the parts, the wandering of the whole, feels as circular and expansive as breathing.
