The authors of this book reread the historical present of the social encyclical Populorum Progressio (1967), published by Pope Paul VI in the wake of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965).

The publication of that text had an important impact on the Catholic world and on society in general. The pontiff tried to make visible the socioeconomic challenges that arose in the world with the spirit of openness of the council. He fully analyzed the issue of development, which in those years was gaining strength throughout the world, and emphasized that this can not only be economic, but integral - of all dimensions of the human being - and solidarity - of all societies and countries
The authors of this book are professors who belong to the Group of Christian Social Thought of UNIJES (higher centers of the Society of Jesus) and the Humanitas Network (international research group of the campus of excellence Aristos Campus Mundus). This work is the result of their joint and interdisciplinary work. In it, the reader will find an exhaustive study of Populorum Progressio and the thought of Pope Montini, as well as novel approaches to our current affairs through the renewal spirit of this encyclical.
