In this work, we present five essays that reflect on the construction of the idea of liberty based on contextual, historical, and documentary source analysis, particularly from English sources, that Skinner used in its development. In order, they appear: “Thinking about Liberty: A Historian’s Approach,” where Skinner delivers the keynote address for the Balzan Foundation. There, he develops two primary objectives: first, to consider how the concept of liberty might be approached, and second, to promote the publication of his work, *Freedom and the Construction of Europe*, which consists of two volumes: *Religious Freedom and Civil Liberty* and *Free Persons and Free States*.
